This match was just what Barça needed after Saturday’s catastrophe. A good game, a morale-boosting win, no injuries and -most importantly, perhaps- a good excuse to put La Liga behind us and focus on a different competition.
I've had a dodgy calf for months, Gerard, what's your excuse?
After letting Real Madrid get an almost-insurmountable advantage on the domestic competiton, many Barça fans are focusing on the Champions League as the only objective that could still make this season a successful one, so it was fundamental that we got a good result on the first leg and proved this team -injuries and all- is still competitive.
For this purpose, Pep chose the best starting XI at his disposal: VV, Alves, Puyol, Mascherano, Abidal, Busquets, Iniesta, Cesc, Adriano, Alexis and Messi. Notice something strange about it? Of course you do, you observant thing!
